Biodegradable vs non-biodegradable waste

Biodegradable: broken down by bacteria and fungi into soil-friendly stuff. Weeks to months.

  • Food scraps, leaves, paper, cotton, wood, dung

Non-biodegradable: don't naturally decompose. Stay for decades to centuries.

  • Plastic, glass, metal cans, aluminium foil, synthetic fabrics, batteries
Example
A banana peel rots in 2–4 weeks. A plastic bag takes 400+ years. A glass bottle might last a million years.
💡 Tip:Segregate at source — green bin (wet/bio) and blue bin (dry/non-bio). Makes waste management 10× easier.
