Watch on YouTubeVideoWater pollution and treatment
Sources of water pollution:
- Sewage (untreated household waste)
- Industrial effluents (factory chemicals)
- Agricultural runoff (pesticides, fertilizers)
- Plastic and garbage dumping
Treatment steps at a plant:
- Screening — remove big solids.
- Sedimentation — let dirt settle.
- Filtration — through sand and gravel.
- Disinfection — chlorine or UV to kill germs.
Example
Why boil water for drinking? Heat kills bacteria that cause cholera, typhoid, diarrhoea.
💡 Tip:Muddy water? Let it sit in a clean vessel — sediment settles; pour off the top; then filter and boil.
