Concept 2 of 4
Watch on YouTubeVideoEdible plant parts
Different parts of a plant are eaten:
- Roots: carrot, radish, beetroot, sweet potato
- Stems: potato (modified stem), ginger, sugarcane
- Leaves: spinach, methi, coriander
- Flowers: cauliflower, broccoli, banana flower
- Fruits: mango, banana, tomato (yes, tomato is a fruit), brinjal
- Seeds: rajma, chickpea (chana), peanuts, rice, wheat
Example
A potato is a stem (it grows underground but isn't a root). Onion is a modified stem too.
💡 Tip:Tomato, brinjal, capsicum, ladyfinger are all fruits (they have seeds inside) — even though we call them “vegetables” in cooking.
