Watch on YouTubeVideoTypes of fractions
- Proper: numerator < denominator. Value < 1. Examples: 3/5, 7/8.
- Improper: numerator ≥ denominator. Value ≥ 1. Examples: 7/4, 9/9.
- Mixed: whole number + proper fraction. 1¾ = 1 + 3/4 = 7/4.
- Unit: numerator is 1 (1/2, 1/3, 1/10).
- Like fractions: same denominator (2/7, 5/7).
- Unlike fractions: different denominators (1/2, 3/5).
Example
Convert 11/4 to mixed: 4 goes into 11 two times (8), remainder 3 → 2¾.
💡 Tip:To convert mixed → improper: multiply whole by denominator, add numerator.
