Tally marks & frequency tables

Tally marks count fast with vertical bars; the 5th is a slash across the 4.

| = 1, || = 2, ||| = 3, |||| = 4, |||||̶ = 5

A frequency table shows each category and how many times it appeared.

Example
Survey of 20 kids on pets: Dog ||||| |||| = 9, Cat |||| = 5, Fish ||| = 3, None ||| = 3. Check: 9+5+3+3 = 20. ✓

💡 Tip:Frequencies must add up to the total surveyed. If not — you lost or double-counted someone.
