Light and what we see

We see an object when light from it reaches our eyes. Two kinds of objects:

  • Luminous: emit their own light (Sun, stars, bulb, candle flame, firefly).
  • Non-luminous: need external light to be seen. They REFLECT light (Moon, book, chair, you).

The Moon is non-luminous — it just reflects sunlight to our eyes.

Example
In a dark room you can't see a book until someone turns on a light — the book was there, but no light was bouncing off it to your eyes.
💡 Tip:Flames, heated wires, and some insects are luminous. Mirrors are NOT — they just redirect light.
