Concept 7 of 8Foundation
Watch on YouTubeVideoMagnetic separation
Pass a magnet over a mixture — magnetic materials (iron, steel) stick to it; non-magnetic stuff doesn't.
Uses:
- Iron filings from sand
- Nails from sawdust
- Iron scrap from garbage (big industrial electromagnets)
Example
Mixture of iron filings + sulfur powder: a magnet lifts only the iron, leaving sulfur behind.
💡 Tip:Only works if one component is magnetic. Gold isn't; iron is.
