Line symmetry & axes

A line of symmetry (axis) splits a shape into two mirror halves.

  • Square: 4 axes (2 diagonals + 2 mid-lines)
  • Rectangle (non-square): 2 axes (two mid-lines)
  • Rhombus: 2 axes (both diagonals)
  • Equilateral triangle: 3 axes (perpendiculars from each vertex)
  • Isosceles triangle: 1 axis
  • Circle: infinite axes (every diameter)
  • Kite: 1 axis (main diagonal)
Example
English letter "T" has 1 line of symmetry (vertical).
"H" has 2 (vertical and horizontal).
💡 Tip:A regular n-gon has exactly n lines of symmetry.
