Watch on YouTubeVideoFractions in word problems
Word-problem tips:
- "of" → ×
- "per" → ÷
- Read carefully — is the fraction of the WHOLE or of the REMAINDER?
Example
Aman eats 1/3 of a cake; Beena eats 1/4 of the REMAINDER. Fraction left for Chitra?
After Aman: 2/3. Beena eats 1/4 × 2/3 = 1/6. Left: 2/3 – 1/6 = 4/6 – 1/6 = 3/6 = 1/2.
After Aman: 2/3. Beena eats 1/4 × 2/3 = 1/6. Left: 2/3 – 1/6 = 4/6 – 1/6 = 3/6 = 1/2.
💡 Tip:Draw a bar diagram if stuck — split the bar in correct fractions.
