Concept 1 of 10Foundation
Watch on YouTubeVideoPerimeter — walking around the edge
Perimeter = total length around the outside of a shape. Imagine an ant walking along the boundary once.
Formulas:
- Square (side s): P = 4s
- Rectangle (length ℓ, breadth b): P = 2(ℓ + b)
- Triangle: P = a + b + c (just add all sides)
- Regular polygon (n sides, side s): P = n × s
Example
Rectangular garden 12 m × 5 m:
P = 2(12 + 5) = 2 × 17 = 34 m.
Cost of fence at ₹50/m = 34 × 50 = ₹1,700.
P = 2(12 + 5) = 2 × 17 = 34 m.
Cost of fence at ₹50/m = 34 × 50 = ₹1,700.
💡 Tip:Perimeter is a LENGTH: m, cm, km — no 'squared'.
