Watch on YouTubeVideoPhysical changes
In a physical change: the substance LOOKS different, but it's still the same substance. No new material is made.
- Melting (ice → water): still H₂O
- Cutting paper: still paper
- Stretching a spring
- Dissolving sugar in water (the sugar is still there; just dispersed)
- Breaking a chalk
Most physical changes are reversible.
Example
Dissolving salt in water looks like a 'disappearance', but evaporate the water → salt comes back. Physical, reversible.
💡 Tip:Physical changes = change in APPEARANCE or STATE, not the substance itself.
