Synthetic fibres and blends

Man-made from chemicals (often petroleum-based):

  • Nylon — strong, stretchy. Used in ropes, parachutes, stockings.
  • Polyester — wrinkle-resistant. Used in shirts, sarees, sports wear.
  • Acrylic — cheap wool alternative.
  • Rayon (semi-synthetic) — made from wood cellulose but processed chemically.

Blends combine strengths. Poly-cotton = cotton's comfort + polyester's durability.

Example
Swimwear is usually synthetic (dries fast, doesn't sag). Raincoat = waterproof synthetic.
💡 Tip:Synthetics last long but don't biodegrade — a growing environmental issue.
