Come from parts of plants:
- Cotton — grows as fluffy balls (bolls) on cotton plants. Used in shirts, sarees, bedsheets.
- Jute — from the STEM of the jute plant (mainly West Bengal). Used in sacks, ropes, bags.
- Flax — from stem; becomes linen fabric.
- Coir — from coconut husk; used for ropes, doormats.
Main chemical: cellulose. These fibres are absorbent, breathable, biodegradable.
Example
Cotton is soft and cool — perfect for Indian summers. Jute is rough and tough — perfect for rice sacks.
💡 Tip:Cotton is used worldwide. India is one of the largest producers.
