Concept 3 of 8Foundation
Watch on YouTubeVideoAdding integers
Imagine a seesaw with money on both sides:
- Same signs: add the amounts, keep the sign. (–5) + (–3) = –8.
- Opposite signs: subtract, keep sign of the BIGGER number. (–7) + 4 = –3.
Use the number line: start at first number, go RIGHT for +, LEFT for –.
Example
You have ₹50 debt (–50). Mom gives ₹80. Final: –50 + 80 = +30 (you have ₹30 now).
💡 Tip:Adding a negative is same as subtracting: 4 + (–3) = 4 – 3 = 1.
