Concept 5 of 10Foundation
Watch on YouTubeVideoMean (average)
Mean = sum of all values ÷ number of values.
Example: scores 4, 7, 3, 6.
Sum = 20, count = 4 → mean = 20 ÷ 4 = 5.
Mean describes the "typical" value but is pulled by extremes.
Example
Heights (cm): 140, 142, 141, 139, 143.
Sum = 705; mean = 705 ÷ 5 = 141 cm.
Sum = 705; mean = 705 ÷ 5 = 141 cm.
💡 Tip:If mean is given, sum = mean × count. Useful for 'find the missing value' problems.
