Concord — singular vs plural verbs

The verb must agree with the subject:

  • Singular: The boy runs.
  • Plural: The boys run.

Watch out for tricky subjects: everyone, each, everybody are singular.

Example
Everyone is happy. (Not are.) The team plays well.
💡 Tip:Find the real subject before the verb. Don't be fooled by phrases between them.
